When considering my future employment, I find myself particularly interested in direct treatment rather than solely focusing on prevention. I fully acknowledge the importance of both direct treatment and prevention in promoting mental well-being. However, I believe that through providing direct treatment, individuals can not only find relief from their current challenges but also acquire the necessary skills to prevent future occurrences of mental illness.
BHS 465 Topic 3 DQ 1
While prevention remains a crucial aspect, it is crucial to recognize its significance in everyone’s lives. By equipping ourselves with prevention techniques, skills, and abilities, we become more aware and better equipped to protect ourselves and those around us.
As counselors, our role is to promote the welfare of our clients, whether it involves treatment or prevention, depending on the unique circumstances they present. It is essential to prioritize the needs of the client and respect their freedom of choice, regularly reviewing and revising counseling plans to ensure their continued effectiveness and relevance (Barbara H., 2016).
