They measure individuals based on their potential contribution to the company’s success and provide opportunities for growth and development.

Understanding Leadership

Influential leaders understand the importance of their role and how to engage with their teams. They know that seeking guidance and coaching is crucial to their professional growth, just as they once did. They prioritize company goals and individual relationships, recognizing the value of each team member’s contributions.

Differences between Leadership and Management

While leadership and management are often used interchangeably, they have distinct characteristics and functions. Managers are responsible for the organization’s overall direction, focusing on planning, organizing, staffing, directing, and controlling. 

They are concerned with ensuring efficiency, making quick decisions, and coordinating activities to achieve organizational objectives. Managers typically avoid conflict as they perceive it to hinder corporate growth in the short term. They use transactional leadership styles, employing rewards and punishments to motivate employees.

In contrast, leaders are focused on the effectiveness of their actions and strive to inspire and influence their followers. They promote change, embrace conflict as an opportunity for growth, and encourage open dialogue and innovative thinking. Leaders have a long-term perspective and are willing to take risks to achieve their vision.
