The Adoption of Technology and Health Care Management
The rapid evolution of health care information technologies in hospitals and clinics has presented a challenge for nurses in adapting to advanced technology without sufficient knowledge (Kleib et al., 2016). Information and communication technology plays a vital role in supporting, tracking, and improving patient outcomes and the delivery of care (Kleib et al., 2016). To enhance their informatics competency and ensure safe care in technology-based work environments, nurses can pursue education and training (Kleib et al., 2016).
Project Proposal
In the healthcare setting, the implementation of new technology systems can pose challenges for many nurses. One proposal to address this issue is the implementation of educational programs that enhance nursing informatics and technology, leading to improved health care and patient outcomes (Peltonen et al., 2018). Nurses can develop informatics skills through on-the-job training, attending conferences, and participating in continuing education programs (Peltonen et al., 2018). Education in informatics enables nurses to manage data, documentation, and medical information through technology-based health systems (Skiba, 2016). It equips them with the necessary skills to utilize electronic health records (EHR) for various health-related information (Skiba, 2016). Stakeholders Involved
The selection of healthcare information systems is typically done by administration, after which they are introduced to clinicians and other healthcare team stakeholders (Georgiou et al., 2018). Informatics impacts a wide range of stakeholders, including nurses, clinicians, administrators, pharmacists, and patients (Georgiou et al., 2018). Collaborative arrangements are essential to ensure the safe and secure use of shared data (Georgiou et al., 2016). Nurses, as critical stakeholders, are at the forefront of adopting new technologies and ensuring the safe delivery of patient care (Georgiou et al., 2018).
Patient Outcomes
The use of technology to support patient engagement can significantly improve the quality of care, increase efficiency, and enhance patient safety (McBride & Tietze, 2015). Engaging patients in their care plan has a positive influence on health outcomes and overall patient experience (McBride & Tietze, 2015). Technology solutions, such as barcoded patient identification bands and medication systems, contribute to safer medication administration and fewer errors (McBride & Tietze, 2015). Nurses can leverage technology to report mistakes, which helps organizations recognize patient safety risks and improve in areas of error (McBride & Tietze, .
