Analyzing a Current Health Care Problem or Issue

NURS FPX 4000 Assessment 4 Attempt 1 Analyzing a Current Health Care Problem or Issue

With the initiation of the health practices, the health systems have always been in grave threat of facing several issues that are either naturally occurring or are man imposed. Either way, the health spectrum has always been at risk for analyzing and counteracting such issues. With the development of highly technical apparatuses and systems that were designed to provide ease during patient management and with the increased advancement in the development of new techniques and their imposition came to lead to the rise of many issues complex nature (Kasthuri, 2018). This broad spectrum of health systems hence is at the stake of maintaining the quality of care that is being provided to the patients that are under treatment.

For any healthcare organization, the foremost thing that is kept in mind and is always at risk is maintaining the safety of their patients. The healthcare society thus remains accountable for any risk that may arise in maintaining the health of the patient and ensuring their safety. If any such issue is left unattended not only does the health of the patient face risks but the organization’s reputation also comes at stake. Such issues would impose long-term side effects on the organization’s performance which may be affected by any such problem and would lead the organization to face financial or social issues as well. (Aminizadeh et al., 2022).

Combating any issue as such requires the application of sufficient knowledge both by the organization and the staff working under them. Here efficient analysis by the staff and the organization related to the problem is required which will help in the development of the rationales that reduce the posed negative effects. Evidence-based practices thus implemented will help in the identification of the issues, and the possible risks that are associated with them, the core cause of the issue, the intervening practices., and the determination of the sources that are to be applied for knowledge-based solutions and the analysis of their credibility, formation of the coalitions between the interdisciplinary departments that will help in the implementation of the steps that will help in lessening the discrepancies that are being observed. The current study discussion will focus on the steps that are related to the identification of such health issues with the application of the Socratic technique that is used for solving the problems that are encountered in the vicinity of the health organizations.

Reasons for Health Care Problem or Issue

While dealing with disasters or daily health issues among patients, the healthcare sector is always seen as the savior that performs in an outclass fashion with no potential risks associated with it. For such a performance, it is expected by the healthcare systems to be prepared readily for facing any issue, however, most of the systems are not prepared in advance, hence pay the price of not being prepared by facing disastrous results and ultimately producing staggering results (Aminizadeh et al., 2022). Therefore, special consideration by the organization is required as the point of concern is the maintenance of the health of the patients and their recovery (Aminizadeh et al., 2019). For the application of the right steps at the right time, the first thing required by the system is the identification of the issue and the reason associated with it.

In the clinical management systems, one major reason for the shortfall of the mismanagement observed is the handling of the situation by taking decisions on first hand which may be right to some extent but carry the risks of going wrong as well. Decision-making relies on the integration of the information that is related to the patient with their clinical implication, analysis of contextual nature, and further detailed information that is related to their medical condition. If any such step is missed or overlooked, it will lead to a poor diagnosis followed by compromised treatment and hence delayed or no recovery of the patient (Cook et al., 2018).

Up till now, it has been observed that among the cases that are brought to the hospitals for treatment a 10 % of the cases under observation face poor diagnosis which results in either the slow recovery of the patients or a worse situation ultimately (Cook et al., 2018).  For such errors to occur the reasons observed include the errors that are observed in the performance of the staff that is dealing with the patients. The staff is always expected to perform flawlessly as they are in direct contact with the patients and are the primary major bodies involved in manhandling. If there, handling technique is not correct it will result in causing havoc.

Ineffective preparedness in response to the crisis is mostly observed on part of the nurses (Gronkiewicz et al., 2020). As per the experiences and evidence from the past, if either a poor diagnosis is made or if the nurses are not well aware of the steps that are being taken during the administration of the treatment to the patient errors might occur. A reason for errors of this nature in the current situation considered to occur may rely upon several factors where either the hospital under action is less prepared and not responding effectively during patient management, the hospital may either be understaffed or have staff with less technical experience or knowledge, on part of the staff lack of attention or disoriented focus while catering the patient that was taken in care, an organization to be running low on the budget which will, later on, impose challenges for the working condition for the staff and will ultimately face low maintenance of the condition, and further the integration of the health system in the hospitals which is either cheap or for which the staff is not fully trained. Such issues will persist to occur if not identified immediately, and dealt with full investment and corporation by the organization.

Causes of the Problem or Issue

Despite the issues mentioned earlier, a focus remains on the major causes that give rise to them to occur. The causes observed can be categorized as follows (Aminizadeh et al., 2022):

Ineffective Training of the Staff

The performance of any hospital management system greatly relies upon the performance of the staff working with them. Since the nurses are the primary bodies dealing directly with the patients, it is expected that they remain at par while performing their duties. However, a great gap is observed in the knowledge and training of the nurses. If the nursing staff is not well educated or trained, they will ultimately be not aware of the understanding that is required while administering the patient the treatment. Hence, the gap in knowledge, understanding, and implementation of the steps designed for the treatment will create a hindrance in the performance of the nurses followed by ineffective handling of the patient.

Management of the patients

NURS FPX 4000 Assessment 4 Attempt 1 Analyzing a Current Health Care Problem or Issue

The patients brought for treatment most often face a barrier in getting screened properly for their disease which will later result in either the recurring of the disease or worsening of their condition. If the staff is not well aware of the condition of the patient and is working with lesser knowledge the patient will remain at the risk of recovering. Another thing that is observed for the inefficient screening of the patient is the low staff which may already be burdened with attending the other patients and not providing prominent care to every individual brought in observation.is the infrastructure of the hospital doesn’t have enough space the management of the patient would become a serious issue while providing care to all the patients.

Management of the resources

As discussed earlier, the hospital’s performance greatly relies on the resources they have obtained either in terms of the staff that has been hired or the systems that have been acquired for providing the treatment. If the hospital runs low on budget, the organization would gradually lack in providing better opportunities to the staff and low maintenance of their working condition. The healthcare system with a low budget will not be ready to invest in such a situation upon the health systems acquired and will focus on acquiring cheaper sources that will later create issues for the staff that is working with them

Management of the Risk

Another issue analyzed is the management of the risk which may be observed if the risk is not identified and communicated on te to the higher authorities. If the staff is unable to identify the nature of the risk and the degree to which it can impose danger to the organization, they will ultimately be not able to communicate these to the higher staff and the issue will prevail to occur with massive disturbance later on.

Identification and categorization of such factors are always necessary for the rationale to develop for handling these issues. A gap that remains in the communication of these issues will result in negligence and ultimately rise the unexpected abhorrent results. The discrepancies observed in the interdisciplinary coordination, lack of communication and discussion aggravate these issues to occur.

Potential Solutions for the Problem or Issue

Since the hospitals and the staff i.e., nurses are met daily with the complex situations mentioned above that require the correct or precise decisions to be taken, they require critical thinking and reasoning which will help them in attaining the targeted result that is required (Rahimzadeh et al., 2018). One major skill that may be applied while dealing with the issues tactfully is the SOCRATIC technique which centralizes the attention for building the ability for critical thinking among the nurses since they are the first and foremost bodies who are dealing with the issues (Machine, 2019).

The Socratic technique inhabits the environment where critical thinking flourishes with the promotion of hypothesis building for any issue of concern with the formulation of strategies that provide profitable results. The technique would enable the working bodies to understand the nature and degree of the problem and how to counter them. The technique would be the most effective if the attitude of the worker goes in line with the technique. The technique in the system that suffers for risk assessment and analysis would be best applied through the formation of a coalition between the different disciplines of the hospitals where the leaders and the stakeholders come in direct contact with the staff working under them and ultimately creating the healthy environment where the issues are brought up to them with the innovative solutions for the issues.

The coalition then based on the critical thinking technique should inhabit the application of the tools or systems that would later help in lessening the discrepancies encountered. The introduction of the CRAAP tool application would then enable the nurses to look for evidence-based relevant sources that would help them in identifying both relevant and irrelevant sources and would provide support to their ideas. The ideas supported with relevant references could then be presented in front of the coalition during the meetings with the higher staff where both the issue and the solution would be discussed with them. Further, the hospital should invest in providing good opportunities to the nurses with the introduction of the EHR system that could help lessen the burden of storing and managing the data of the patients. The nurses should be allowed to be trained for the application of the system by hiring external expert bodies for the respective EHR system who will train and remove all ambiguities that could remain in the mind of the nurses so that they can perform efficiently.

Ethical Principles of Potential Solution Implemented

To function effectively preparedness on a structural level is what is required by the hospitals which will reduce any failure that could be expected to occur (Moheimani et al., 2021). Dealing with the issues on the structural level and introducing preventive techniques against them also require ethical principles to be followed. WHO defines sustainable development to keep flowing within any system and relies upon the key factor of the preparedness of the team working in a hospital (Aminizadeh et al., 2022; WHO, 2007)? For any decision that is being taken during the treatment of the patient ethical criteria are to be considered carefully.

With the application of tools as such the EHR system, storing data of the patient is at most risk, thus the privacy of the patient data could be ensured allowing only the authorized bodies to be in reach of the information. Categorization of the staff based on this could help in keeping the ethical standards maintained. During the application of such a system, the nurses must be provided the platforms where they are given the will to explore and learn about the system. Further, the nurses must be trained to be well aware of the ethical consequences if they do any mistake while dealing with patients. Such knowledge would help the nurses to orient their complete attention to the patient specifically during medication administration. Further, the CRAAP tool application must be made sure so that credible sources come into use for the innovative solutions to be applied.

Conclusion

Healthcare systems are dealing with multiple issues of different nature and severity for which they require to perform most effectively. To counter these issues efficient techniques such as the SOCRATIC technique must be introduced and applied which help in the mitigation of the negative effects posed by such a crisis. The application of such techniques with ethical considerations helps in lessening the discrepancies that are observed in the healthcare systems overall.
