Interview Summary

I spoke with a colleague who is a head nurse at the very same healthcare institute where I practice as a registered nurse. We discussed a broad variety of subjects, but we mostly focused on challenges that affect healthcare quality and the integrative actions the institute has taken to fix the issues. The coworker brought up issues that the healthcare institution has long-standing throughout the interview. The administration is responsible for supervising all aspects of the hospital’s healthcare care, particularly record inspections and quality assurance checks of the healthcare delivered by the city’s establishments. 

Disparities in access to and availability of medical services continue to be an issue in the hospital, according to the nurse, who acknowledged that this is a concern for the organization.         Additionally, by working together, the heads of the health department and the nurses, and other medical professionals at the primary healthcare institutions are gradually achieving equality by giving more people access to high-quality medical care. The culture of the city’s department of health services is to involve as many stakeholders as possible in the development and implementation of public health policies. Disparities Collaboration is crucial in tackling the problem in health care, which has an impact on public health (Brown et al., 2019).

Identification of the Issue

           An evidence-based, multidisciplinary strategy may be necessary to address the issue of health service inequities brought up by the coworker during the interview. Health care disparities cause some demographic groups to have higher rates of mortality, morbidity, and disease burden than others. A shortage of nurses means that fewer nurses will be expected to carry the burden. Not all patients are eager to cooperate with nurses or pay attention to them. Such patients might make it more difficult for nurses to administer care. Nurses have to deal with patients who could have communicable infections. When drawing their blood, giving them injections, or breathing close to patients, they must use caution. They are unable to predict when they may get the illness from the sufferer. Nurses put in very long hours and may spend a lot of time away from their homes. They might not get to visit their loved ones in such circumstances. Nurses could not get enough sleep in addition to becoming exhausted (Shah et al., 2021).

           A specific variable must be the driving force behind the disparities, and in order to address the issue, research, clinical intervention, and client preferences are all required. The fact that inequalities have long been a problem and that any future treatments must take into account the effectiveness and inadequacy of past solutions is another justification for an interdisciplinary approach to resolving them. The impact of inequalities has made it more difficult for the organization to meet other quality care goals since certain groups cannot receive quality treatment while others fall behind (Howarth et al., 2020).

Change Theories That Could Lead to an Interdisciplinary Solution

          Every organization needs change since it’s necessary for it to go from one level to another. The idea of evolution offers a conceptual framework for achieving change inside an organization. In any organization, there is a team that is in favor of change while another team is opposed to it. For change to succeed, the supporting team must outnumber the opposing side. Change theory may aid in the development of an interdisciplinary solution by helping both teams to create recommendations for how a solution might be reached. The best remedy for the issue may be developed by gathering proposed solutions from all the interested parties, whether they are supportive or opposed (Patrício et al., 2019).

         Lewin’s theory of change is pertinent to the problem of inequality in health care since it includes many points of view among the parties involved, indicating that a powerful opposing force has to be identified in order to develop a workable multidisciplinary solution. The information’s source is reliable because it comes from a reputable publication that even discusses how to change theory is applied in the fields of nursing and healthcare safety (McCartney et al., 2020).

In order to tackle the nursing administration issue in hospitals, the Plan-DO-Study-Act (PDSA) model of change is chosen for implementation. The model is made up of a four-stage, iterative method of problem-solving that is often used to enhance a certain process and bring about the desired change. It is crucial to take into account comments from both internal and external consumers for the PDSA model to function well.

Leadership Strategies That Could Lead to an Interdisciplinary Solution

          Leadership must be involved for any organization to develop a solution to an issue, and the leadership methods should support the answer. Commitment to continual education is a leadership approach that entails a leader’s commitment to the ongoing development of his or her team by ensuring that team members, in this example, medical professionals, get ongoing education. Continued research into cutting-edge techniques is necessary to provide patients with high-quality healthcare. Through education and the development of creative ways to address differences, this leadership technique may result in an interdisciplinary solution that then leads to a multidisciplinary solution.

          Another method that can aid in creating an interdisciplinary solution is delegation and empowerment, which involves educating the other concerned parties on effective ways to address inconsistencies in health care services. As leadership-involved techniques that entail collaborating with others to find a solution to a problem, these strategies are pertinent to the multidisciplinary approach to the problem. Health care disparities include people, and since those same people must be used to find a solution, finding one is difficult. Since it is published by a reputable publication and contains particular information about the health care sector, the material’s source may be trusted (Salazar et al., 2019).

Collaboration Approaches for Interdisciplinary Teams

         According to the colleagues in my department, a collaborative approach would be used to resolve the majority of departmental concerns. In an effort to find a solution to the inequalities issue that would guarantee uniformity in the delivery of and access to high-quality medical services, connections are also used. However, in order for partnerships to succeed, a role must pay attention to the leadership style that is employed. Transformational leadership is the style of leadership in play here. To make the vision a reality, transformational leadership enables the leader to describe leadership to the followers and draw on their values. Health care disparities are constantly linked to racial and ethnic differences, and this has to do with the personal values of the healthcare professionals who work with the patients (Moirano et al., 2019).

        An interdisciplinary solution can be reached when a leader makes an appeal to the advantages of the followers and requests change regard them. Working in teams requires understanding the intentions of the leader while generating a solution, therefore adopting transformational leadership will be successful in bringing the various individuals together to reach the predetermined goals. In this situation, a leadership strategy could also be successful since it allows all stakeholders’ ideas to be heard and taken into account. (Moirano et al., 2019).

         A leader has to understand the concerns and viewpoints of each collaborator in order to successfully design an interdisciplinary solution for addressing administration concerns. 

Conclusion

           In order to provide the patient with the best treatment, interdisciplinary methods require cooperation between the patient and health experts from many professions. The most effective teams value the knowledge and individuality of each member while fostering task sharing and interdependence between positions. For issues to be reframed outside of their traditional context and for solutions to be founded on a fresh understanding of difficult circumstances, it necessitates merging concepts from several disciplines of study, unique areas of knowledge, or domains of skill.
