Intervention Strategy

NURS FPX 5007 Assessment 3 Intervention Strategy

To ensure the smooth operation of the organization, a successful leader must possess certain characteristics. A leader’s success is highly dependent on their ability to make decisions, think critically, communicate effectively, and solve problems. The results of this assessment will shed light on how to identify a leadership strategy and how the organizational change model affects leadership qualities. This assessment gives you a chance to come up with a novel strategy for dealing with a leadership issue that is based on relevant leadership theories and tactics. You can also show how a leadership policy, legislation, or change model might affect that strategy.

Identification of Leadership Strategy

This assessment will discuss the strategies to mitigate the issues related to managing a toxic leader. Jackie, the Nurse manager, and chair of the conferences is a leader who is toxic and not performing her duties with responsibility. The identified strategy to resolve and manage this leadership problem is implicating the transformational leadership style. The transformational leadership strategy focuses majorly on creating a healthy work environment by nurse leaders and taking care of the beliefs, ideas, and personal values of team members. As Jackie made decisions on her own without asking for recommendations from other staff members. She canceled meetings without informing anyone and had inappropriate behavior toward other nurses. This caused inconvenience and frustrated the staff. Transformational leadership strategy will aim to ensure that the leader will give value to all the staff members. It will foster an environment where all the staff under the leader will be valued and given a sense of empowerment by getting involved in the decision-making process and designing intervention plans.

Applying a transformational leadership strategy in this case study will increase collaboration among the staff which will reduce misunderstandings among them. Additionally, the strategy will help Jackie to professional behavior in the work environment by following a proper communication style and dress code.

To meet the standard of effective communication among the leader and staff, routine huddles among them could be arranged to increase collaboration. Staff can attend round table meetings to address specific healthcare-related issues. There will be an increase in sense of empowerment among staff when they will be involved in the decision-making process. It will help them create a good relationship between staff and leader. Moreover, training could be provided to the leaders before handing them over their responsibilities for they to perform their duties effectively. According to Batras et al. (2016), organizational change theory can be implemented in the organization for the leaders that will ensure success in developmental initiatives in interventions. Organizational change models will help leaders learn more about the needs of the organization, help them implement necessary changes, and aid the leaders to effectively adopt the positive changes. A study by Hamm et al. (2021) depicts that TeamSTEPPS program should be developed the organization that will necessary strategies for promoting effective teamwork and communication in the organization It will lead to positive outcomes such as improved collaboration and better patient outcomes. Jackie would be able to reduce her communication mistakes which will help her to gain the staff’s trust and enhance patient safety.

Role of Leadership Theory to Resolve Nursing Leadership Problem

Adopting transformational leadership strategy and organizational change theory will help to resolve above mentioned nursing leadership problems and issues. Transformational leadership strategy will help Jackie to learn to ask about the opinions of other staff members before planning and decision-making process. She will learn about the importance of patient care needs and the significance of attending patient care conferences. Organizational change models such as leader-centric organizational change will help Jackie adopt all the necessary changes in her behaviour and role that will bring positivity to her professional attitude. She will get knowledge about professional behaviours and how he should treat her seniors and juniors. Applying leadership theories, models and strategies can help Jackie to eliminate all the poor leadership behaviours which will positively impact staff morale (Cianelli et al., (2016).

According to Miles and Scott (2019), nursing-related issues such as errors, lack of communication, discrimination, and low-quality patient care can be resolved through leadership strategies. They aid in the interpretation of intricate concepts and offer potential solutions to common issues. A study by Smith (2019) depicts that applying effective clinical leadership models in a healthcare setting ensures a high-quality healthcare system that consistently improves staff relations and delivers effective care. Knowing which leadership theories are applicable to nursing practice and which change is required is helpful for healthcare leaders in achieving their goals.

Influence of Organizational Change Model

The organizational change model influences an intervention strategy by highlighting significant required changes. This model will talk about how leadership style and behaviour need to change. The application of an organizational change model will foster change leadership, which will have a beneficial effect on numerous organizational factors. It will take a people-first approach to manage change. It will see change initiatives as a chance for the organization to grow, get the desired results, and improve its leadership position. Effective change leadership will enhance a healthcare system’s capacity for health promotion, as will the achievement of organizational objectives (Batras et al., 2016).

System models have an impact on the delivery of healthcare services, patient care delivery strategies, and corporate goals. To better understand and explain health behaviour and direct the creation and implementation of interventions, these models and strategies will be used in program planning. Models of patient care delivery will guide the leaders and staff in the healthcare industry to collaborate to provide the best services to patients. The staff is assisted in implementing the best strategies by various healthcare models, such as the Chronic Care Model and the Health Home Model, to collaborate and provide the best possible services (Endeshaw, 2020). The organizational change model also helps in designing an intervention plan by pointing out the needs of the patients and suggesting essential changes in the plan.

Effect of Health Care Policy and Legislation

NURS FPX 5007 Assessment 3 Intervention Strategy

Association of American Nurses (n.d.) discusses how healthcare policy and legislation might affect how a nursing leadership issue is solved or managed. Laws and regulations become necessary when healthcare providers must recognize the connection between staffing levels and patient outcomes. The purpose of the legislation is to help staff make decisions about changing the scope of practice according to the needs of patients (American Nurses Association, n.d.). Policies and regulations under the public health laws, such as the Healthcare Quality Improvement Act (HCQIA), the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act, and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), all contribute significantly to the provision of high-quality patient care by enhancing staff coordination and leadership roles (Giardino & Edwards, 2020).

Quality assurance, healthcare delivery, and patient outcomes are all directly impacted by health care legislation. They guide the leaders to make necessary changes in their behaviour with the team members, personal thoughts and values and delivering the services to the patients.

Legislation has a significant impact on handling a nursing leadership issue. Leadership mistakes can be caused by unethical and unprofessional behaviour, but laws and legislations help prevent them. Depending on the rules, nonprofessional behaviour by leaders could result in sanctions. In addition, they will comply with regulations and policies to provide patients with high-quality services (Schaeffer & Haebler, 2019).

Conclusion

To conclude, effective leadership qualities can be achieved by following appropriate healthcare policies and regulations. Organization change model helps to make necessary changes in the policy considerations and intervention plans of the organization. Implementing leadership theories help to resolve leadership issues and problems.
