Reflecting on Ethical Standards and Core Nursing Values

Personal values, ethical standards, and the need to keep on growing give professional identity to nursing (Li and Li, 2024). This identity plays a crucial role in helping me as an advanced practice nurse to provide safe, caring, and equitable care to the patients and in developing collaboration within health care teams. The current paper will contemplate my practices concerning the main values of nursing, compliance with diversity and inclusion, compliance with the professional organizations, ethical behaviors, mentoring, and peer review. All these considerations, combined, lead to the fact that my professional identity is continuously evolving, and I believe it is one of my strengths that can be added to my practice as a nurse.

Critique of Personal and Professional Practices in the Context of Nursing’s Core Values

In my opinion, the professional identity of a nurse is the complex of clinical, ethical practice, and commitment to patient-centered care. In my instance, nursing will entail administering safe and evidence-based interventions to patients and families and being an advocate, educator, and sensitive supporter. Constant learning, trusting relationships, and patient confidentiality and safety are my primary strengths, and some of the aspects that require improvement are self-confidence in delegation and the ability to communicate effectively under pressure during leadership. Knowledge of these strengths and weak points may help to be more aligned with the values of nursing and continue working in order to become a more professional and increase the patient outcome (Ystaas et al., 2023).

Demonstration of Core Values

My values and beliefs as a nurse are a key aspect of my personal and professional practice that offers me the vision of a nurse as I should be concerning the core values of nursing. I will be truthful, transparent, and accountable in all areas of patient care, even during difficult situations, and therefore will show integrity. My altruism is expressed in the fact that I would prioritize the health of other people and do more than what is required to ensure that the patients and families are taken care of. I would welcome inclusivity as a proactive means of respecting and honoring the various backgrounds, beliefs, and experiences of the patients and my colleagues to enable me to develop an environment where each individual will feel significant.

The most important aspect of my daily communication is compassion since all patients are in my hands, and I consider them with empathy and kindness, and courage is a way to protect patient safety and speak up in case practices related to care can jeopardize the outcome (Chen et al., 2021). I am also humble as I keep in mind that learning is the continuous process and I would welcome the ideas of other students.

My advocacy is manifested in the way I advocate patient rights and the way I offer care, fairly, and the other factor that goes to show my commitment to advocacy is the way I retain relationships with the patients through the most vulnerable moments. My independent and humanistic style is supported by my ability to follow the rights of patients to make an informed choice about their health and value everyone I interact with due to their dignity and value. A combination of these values will allow me to possess a professional identity since they will help me deliver holistic, ethical, and patient-centered nursing care.

Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI)

Empowering diversity, equity, and inclusion involves being deliberate in dealing with patients and cooperating with other health workers (Legate and Weinstein, 2024). I am impressed with the cultural values and language needs. I also refer to the translators where need be and I customize the content in education based on the literacy level. I also take part in social determinants of health that have to do with promoting resources and other forms of assistance. My approach to inclusiveness among work colleagues is to value the diversity of opinions, overcome prejudice, mentor minorities, and provide equal opportunities. The strategies are in line with the greater DEI efforts, including inclusive policies, cultural competency training, and the elimination of disparities.

Professional Organizations Reflecting Personal Nursing Values and Identity

The American Nurses Association (ANA) is one of the professional bodies that will make me feel valued as a nurse. The mission statement of ANA, which implies the promotion of the nursing profession and the realization of the purpose to advance the health of all individuals, and the vision statement of the healthy world with the strength of nursing are aligned with my personal objective of advocacy, caring, and social justice (American Nursing Association, 2019). Their emphasis on integrity, ethical practice, and patient-centered care depicts my commitment to honesty, compassion, and respect toward every person and their dignity.

Diversity, equity, and inclusion are also encouraged by ANA, and this is also one of the aspects of my philosophy of advancing culturally sensitive care and reducing health inequities. Similarly, the other organizations, such as the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing (Sigma), emphasize leadership, scholarship, and professional development that I can attribute to my goals of lifelong learning, leading others, and servant leadership (Sigma, 2025). Identifying myself with such organizations helps me to reinforce my own professional identity as a nurse who values integrity, inclusiveness, advocacy, and lifetime development.

How Professional Organizations Improve Personal Practice

Professional nursing organization practice will bring my practice to the next level by using continuing education, evidence-based resources, and networking (Hakvoort et al., 2022). Membership inthe American Nurses Association has provided me with the latest information on policy initiatives and ethical behaviors and made me more efficient in representing patients and colleagues. I acquire knowledge, gain evidence-based care through my experiences in conferences and workshops, and leadership, mentorship, and collaboration through Sigma Theta Tau International. These experiences allow me to develop myself and be current, competent, and engaged in the development of nursing practice.

Reflection on Ethical Behaviors in Nursing Practice and Leadership

Ethical behavior is the center of nursing, and the role model that I have is to promote the welfare of the patient, respect autonomy, and show honesty and accountability in practice (Ibrahim, 2024). I safeguard confidentiality, informed consent, and empower decisions to the patient by making sure that they are aware of their treatment decisions. My fairness is also demonstrated in the way I respect and treat all the patients with compassion, and being a leader, I encourage open communications, address conflicts in an open manner, and engage colleagues in airing their grievances. By upholding integrity, justice, and advocacy, I increase trust and help in the creation of a professional environment where patient-centered care is thriving.

Potential Solutions When Unethical Behaviors Are Observed

It is important to take the right course when one notices an unethical practice, and the course should be taken in a positive way to save the patients and preserve the reputation of the profession. I would also approach the matter with respect and confront the individual on the matter, and in case of any further concerns, then I would involve the right chain of command and provide an objective report of the case. Ethical dilemmas are also encouraged to be discussed in a team, which fosters the culture of trust and continuous improvement (Nadeem, 2024). My direct interaction, compliance with the policy, and cooperation with the ethics resources enable me to make sure that unethical behavior is avoided, and help to take care of the patient and develop professionally.

Reflection on Mentoring Others in Professional Growth and Accountability

This has made me a mentor and mentee, which has helped me to develop and become a responsible professional (Nadeem, 2024). As a mentor to the new nurse who was hired, I assisted her in time management, prioritization, effective communication, and portrayed accountability by means of documentation, safe practice, and patient advocacy. This contributed to her improving her confidence and competence,e and my determination to learn. Similarly, mentoring also helped me to master the skills of leadership, decision-making, and communication.

Specific Examples of Actions That Had Positive Impacts on Mentees

Mentorship has offered quality value to me as an individual and the care team in general. To substantiate the mentioned fact, talking about a new nurse with whom I had to cooperate and mentor her in safe medication administration and communication with other professionals, I noticed that the confidence that she received led to a decrease in the number and more effective collaboration with other professionals. This had a positive on patient safety outcomes and efficiency. At the individual level, the process increased my leadership competence as I became more competent with regard to communication, positive feedback, and tolerance of complex teaching skills. It also helped the team to have a stronger sense of unity since mentorship enhanced mutual trust and respect among the team, hence it is easier to work in a team (Aquino et al., 2025). Finally, mentorship has been cited to develop the growth in individual nurses as well as groups of caregivers who have a sense of responsibility, strength, and commitment to provide quality care to their patients.

Evaluation of Strategies and Methods for Effective Peer Review

The strategies of peer review that can be employed in the nursing field are formative peer review and structured evaluation tools, such as a checklist or a rubric. Formative review is also the one that gives positive feedback to the learning process, and it results in reflection, development, and cooperation (Sortwell et al., 2024). Planned things are predictable and equitable as they are based on clear empirical norms, subjectivity is eliminated, and resources are oriented towards potential quantifiable abilities.

Benefits and Drawbacks of Strategies and Methods

Formative peer review and structured evaluation tools are also quite effective and have advantages and disadvantages. Formative peer review aids in the open communication system, professional development, and professional skill development, but the system becomes faulty once the feedback is conveyed respectfully or when the feedback recipient is defensive (Sortwell et al., 2024). Structured assessment tools, on their part, are somewhat objective and stable, and reduce the effects of bias and unfairness to the minimum, yet they are not as enriching as clinical judgment and interpersonal relations, which cannot be described only by the on-paper standards. The limitations aside, the synthesis of the formative feedback and standardized tools will allow considering this synthesis a balanced solution that is going to assist in raising the rates of professional responsibility and a continuous improvement process, and maintain the impartiality of the evaluation procedure.

Reflection on an Experience in the Evaluation of Other Members of a Care Team

The most interesting peer evaluation experience was the one during which I had to perform a peer evaluation of patient handoff with the help of a structured rubric to evaluate the adequacy, communication, and compliance with safety measures. Feedback also helped to identify her strengths and suggested areas of improvement, which facilitated open communication and positive learning (Zamiri and Esmaeili, 2024). After being tested on the same process later, I learnt my own communication patterns, and it made me clearer and comprehensive. This experience confirmed the value of peer criticism in being mutually developed, trusted, and responsible in the team.

Benefits of the Experience to Me and the Care Team

Evaluation experience was helpful since it allowed me and the care team to be responsible, communicate effectively, and improve patient outcomes. I also got to know more about my strengths and weaknesses and was encouraged to work on the procedures of handoff and to be responsive to feedback. Peer review created a feeling of trust and collaboration among the team and turned criticism into a learning process that improved relationships and handoff normalization (Zamiri and Esmaeili, 2024). This feeling of collective responsibility made us improve our compliance with safe and quality care delivery.

Conclusion

The reflection on my professional identity has brought to attention the need to integrate the practice of nursing with the key values, professional ethics, and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. The principles guiding my care are integrity, compassion, advocacy, and social justice, which are developed through the influence of the organizations such as the American Nurses Association. The benefits of responsibility and teamwork in personal and group development were reflected in the mentoring and peer review.
