My course requirements have included 100 practicum hours, and this requirement met the requirements of the MSN program. These hours were devoted to various activities that would support the primary goals of my practicum experience such as patient-centered care, self-care management, and health and well-being at the workplace. The period has been spent in close collaboration with my preceptor to practice motivational interviewing methods, create culturally sensitive care plans, and assess the workplace atmosphere to identify opportunities to promote health and wellness among personnel. These activities enabled me to apply my theoretical knowledge to practice and got my skills in communicating, being a leader, and critical thinker better.
This practicum experience provided me with important lessons on the issues of complexities of healthcare delivery, primarily relating to the needs and demands of varying patient groups and the building of a positive workplace environment. I participated in the following activities, which included, patient education, interdisciplinary collaboration and quality improvement efforts. Both experiences helped advance my concept of person-centered care and strengthened my belief in diversity, equity, and inclusion in healthcare. I am now ready to take the capstone course and make a significant contribution to my future practice thanks to completing these 100 hours and the knowledge and skills I gained.
