Reestablishing Functionality Through Leadership
Any civil mastermind or mastermind worth their swab will agree that there’s an inarguable similarity between the humblest homes and the most spectacular edifices. Both must be erected upon sure foundations. Brigades of people are no different. The foundation upon which a platoon is erected corresponds to interpersonal connections, or connections, which should be erected upon a solid bedrock of trust and respect. Still, if these connections grow weak, the foundation crumbles, and the platoon’s functionality diminishes greatly. One similar platoon exists, and compliance by upper operations led to the conclusion that the former leadership had allowed divisions to form and mold.
The platoon was lately notified that they were assigned a new leader. Fortunately, that leader isn’t walking blindly into the situation. Upon being notified of their selection, the new leader was informed that the platoon they were joining was formerly a hustler but had been declining in productivity for some time because of dysfunctional communication and collaborative practices. It’ll be the leader’s task to rebuild the foundation of the platoon and restore them to full functionality. The strategies used will be those learned from studying fabulous leaders like Hall of Fame trainer John Wooden. The process will bear the new leader to establish them as a model of character through first prints, form and form connections with and between the platoon members, and make a terrain of trust and respect.
First Prints Character and Values
First prints can set the tone for the rest of a relationship. Some new leaders seek to establish their position of dominance over their inferiors. This approach does little for the morale of the workers and nothing to repair rifts that stymie communication, and the goods tend to be seen in the If this approach appreciatively affects productivity short run but taper off over time. According to John Wooden, character is essential for leadership (Dobbs). His character was on full display. Everyone around him understood who he was and how he lived his life. He held those he led to the same prospects to which he held himself (Walton,n.d.). His values were grounded on a handwritten list of effects to do, which was given to him by his father. According to Hornsby (2010), those seven admonitions were.
- Be true to yourself.
- Help others.
- Make each day your masterpiece.
- Drink deeply from good books, especially the Bible.
- Make fellowship a fine art.
- Make a sanctum against a stormy day.
- Supplicate for guidance and count and give thanks for your blessings every day.
Wooden’s style of leadership has always been desirable but delicate to emulate. By combining one’s natural character and harmonious practice, one can develop into the type of leader he was naturally. Another aspect of the character that should be made clear during the original meeting is the leader’s work heritage and their plan to be involved in the work. Great leaders don’t push from before but guide from the front (Maxwell & Covey, 2007). While numerous heads can be set up pushing productivity from behind an office, leaders are in the fosses with their platoon, working toward their common thing.
When a platoon understands that their leader intends to take on the task with them and a large portion of the responsibility for the outgrowth, a measure of trust and respect is gained. In the case of the platoon in question, the most important value that the leader should express during the first meeting is their anticipation of open and honest communication. Openness connotes an open-door policy that allows the formative review to flow both ways. Honesty implies that everyone should be free to speak their mind, with due respect, indeed, when standing in descent.

A good leader is always ready to hear recommendations for action, review, or enterprise from their platoon. Likewise, when a leader makes a recommendation for action, it should be positive and formative and in no way slighting. A similar communication has been proven to alleviate worker stress situations, ameliorate morale and connections, and increase provocation and productivity (Stephenson, 2004). A compendium of these leadership actions will serve as the first way taken with this platoon going forward.
Forming Connections
As a part of communication, the leader should also take the time and put forth the trouble to know each platoon member collectively, to help them understand how they suppose, feel, their personalities, tendencies, requirements and solicitations, and the sources of their provocation. Wooden did this well, and it enabled him to form lasting connections with the members of his brigades (Walton,n.d.). Wooden was a strong exponent of the idea that people aren’t concerned about what one knows until they know how important that person cares for them (Dobbs, 2022).
The leader can also establish an illustration of asked actions by constantly working to make the strength of their connections within the platoon. Thus, the conformation of real connections, showing love and concern for everyone, and furnishing for their requirements are integral corridors of restoring and maintaining the functionality of a platoon. This process can begin on day one. The leader can begin by addressing the platoon and also giving each member time to meet with them one-on-one. During the pull-eschewal time, it behooves the leader to hear further than they talk.

This allows the leader to assess the internal and physical state of each member, as well as learn some material information that helps them discern a bit about their personality. For the platoon members, this time gives them the occasion to state enterprises and feel heard. The process is no way – ending and continues with each consecutive discussion with the platoon members. Over time, they gradationally learn that the leader truly cares about them and values them as mortal beings as well as platoon members. They also come more comfortable pitching ideas and offering feedback, which builds cooperation and effectiveness.
Team members who feel valued by their leaders tend to perform in advanced situations and begin to imagine the leader’s actions. The Benefits of Creating a Terrain of Trust and Respect thickness between one’s guests and the prospects of others is a firm base for the establishment of trust and respect. When platoon members understand that the leader can be counted upon, will take responsibility for their conduct, give credit where it’s due, and work to cover them, their trust and respect for them grow.

If the leader has established a terrain of trust and respect, slips in character, which is known to break trust in other situations, may be overcome if the leader takes responsibility for the slip and works to make proper retaliation. Still, if the leader has failed to establish such terrain, they warrant sufficient trust to rainfall similar incidents. Leaders who violate the trust of their people without the foundation of trust lose their capability to impact them, therefore getting dysfunctional themselves (Maxwell & Covey, 2007). Thus, honesty and integrity should be among the values generally expressed and rehearsed by the leader.
