Creating a Professional Development Plan

NURS FPX 6103 Assessment 4 Creating a Professional Development Plan

Nursing educators are faculty members of nursing schools and colleges and are responsible to teach and train new nurses so that they will be able to provide quality care to their patients in the future. The role of nursing educators is to teach clinical skills, and patient cares to new nurses and may provide them with best collaborative practices in both the academic and research side of the nursing profession (Wittenberg et al, 2021). Nurse educators may not only perform as a teacher, but may also serve as administrators, advisors, clinical coaches, lab instructors, and so on (KEYPATH EDUCATION, 2020). A concise professional development plan helps attain the desired results of nursing education. In this paper, we will develop a professional development plan by describing the area of focus, professional goals, influences, analysis, and leadership roles.

Area of focus

NURS FPX 6103 Assessment 4 Creating a Professional Development Plan

Nursing education is a wide field and has a large number of areas to focus on. I will try to limit my practice to clinical supervision. Clinical supervision is the formal process of the nursing profession that may allow the graduate to enter the work field and deliver quality care to patients by using their professional expertise and skills (Jangland et al, 2021). These clinical supervisors are responsible to guide the nursing students that how to deal with patients. This area of focus, which is unique from the nurse educator’s academic focus, includes evidence-based practice for this study. Tried methodologies and healthcare practices are crucial to ensure the capacity of nurses at the time working directly with patients. MSN-prepared competencies are required to apply for the post of clinical supervisor (Beeber et al, 2019). The clinical supervisor has all the skills to apply Evidence-based practice in casework and may supervise the nursing practitioners.

Nursing educators are also able to get the data from recent research and may apply this in their field. They should have all the skills to conduct research and can locate the data in their particle field of practice. The clinical supervisor should have all the skills to translate the practice into the workplace, as in most cases there is a need to adjust the evidence-based practice by seeing the current situation of the patient (Ammentorp et al, 2022). This strategy works best for the better health outcome of the patient and is useful for clinical supervisors to use for the efficacy of treatment plans. Moreover, the clinical supervisor should also have leadership skills, as they have to train the nurses toward better practice and may improve their knowledge and practices. In addition to that, nurse educators should be dedicated to training and may promote the nurses rather than focusing on their careers exclusively on patient care. From the research of Bullington et al (2019), it is found that nurse educators must include the skills of active listening, personal stress management, communication, and so on.

Professional Goals

NURS FPX 6103 Assessment 4 Creating a Professional Development Plan

Professional goals are said to be concrete objective that someone desire to achieve in their career. These can be in the form of skills, milestones, salaries, and so on (Greco et al, 2019). In the case of developing a professional plan for nurses’ education, the first professional goal should be the development of education programs for the practical training of nurses. This will help the nurses to get hands-on experience with dummy patients. Achieving this may take up to ten years of dedicated effort. The development of education programs may help the nurses to polish their skills and will be able to provide quality care to their patients. This goal is in accordance with my philosophy of nursing, as nurses will be able to provide quality care to their patients and it may depend upon the observation of nurse practices and how much they can understand all things.

My second career objective is to teach about pediatric care. Being a nurse with expertise and a genuine interest in working with children, I am well-suited to this field. For this reason, as an MSN nurse educator, I will be able to better instruct new nurses in the art of pediatric care thanks to my prior expertise in the field. Receiving high-quality and specialized training in pediatric case management will help me a lot to achieve this goal. Case management, in addition to clinical supervision, is a field I hope to work in. So, after receiving extensive training I will be able to teach the new nurses about all the clinical skills of the healthcare facility.

Social, Economic, Political, and Institutional Influences on Nurse Education Role

Institutional Influence

Along with the professional goals, social, political, and institutional influences have their influences on nurses’ education. Institutional structure and model of practice have the biggest influence on nursing education. Institutional factors are useful for the identification of internal and external environmental factors of healthcare facility. Moreover, the values, culture, and norms that nurse practitioners also have a huge impact on the institution. In addition to that, availability of clinical sites, accrediting bodies, and financial funding may also be affected in nursing education.

Social Influences

Sociological knowledge is so much of importance in healthcare facility, as it allows the nurses to improve the quality care of patients. Clinical skills are being required for this to understand the requirements of patient. It is equally beneficial in making healthy choices, affording medical care, and managing stress. Moreover, social determinants of health can easily be identified through the social and environmental factors of nursing education such as quality education, access to healthcare, food, and so on. In addition to that, these social factors have direct related to health of individual, families, communities, and whole population.

Economic Influence

Nursing economics has a huge influence on healthcare facility as it is helpful in promoting healthy lifestyles and may depend upon the positive health outcome of patients. The economic issues such as unemployment, interest rates, and inflation always has a direct and indirect impact on financial performance of healthcare facilities, Moreover, shortage of nurses in healthcare facility has directly impact on financial performance of healthcare institutions. These shortage of nurses problem can easily be solved by offering the competitive salaries to all the nurses in the healthcare.

Political Influence

Healthcare organizations may also have a great influence on political factors. These political factors can be in the form of changing tax legislation, consumer protection, and employment regulations. In the field of nursing, nurses must participate in politics other than voting if they want to promote their profession effectively. Moreover, nurses educators must be aware of the social determinants of health, and workplace politics. It is also known as office politics and nurse educators should make sure that patients and staff nurses should remain same during this.

Analysis

The concept-based learning model is considered the foundation of my nursing scholarship strategy. This model helps promote nursing concepts and is useful in nursing practice. It may also be considered as the incorporating clinical judgment technique that can underline the issues in nursing. As the nursing educator’s concept of continuous improvement is based on this model, it is massively beneficial in my scholarship work. I will also use this approach to combine all the scholarship activities that may support my educator role in the healthcare institution.

One of the primary objectives for scholarship will be to incorporate evidence into healthcare instruction and may use it to improve conceptual understanding. When educating nurses on various issues, I may cite reputable and recent journal articles that might put the concepts into practice. The concept-based approach that is central to my program allows me to incorporate latest information into my teaching. In short, it will play a critical role in facilitating lessons in the educational environment and may prepare students to practice these techniques in their research.

Furthermore, I will be able to instruct practitioners on various topics as I guide practitioners in their practice, which is my main area of focus. Additionally, I will keep an eye on practitioners as they may work beyond the classroom in order to encourage them to apply the theories and models they have learned in class. This strategy is equally beneficial in creating a deep understanding of concepts that are used in the practical concept-based model. So, my scholarly program is associated with the translation of theory into practice, an approach that has its foundations in evidence-based practice.

Leadership Role

NURS FPX 6103 Assessment 4 Creating a Professional Development Plan

Nurse educators must have the capabilities of leadership, as they are supposed to be the role model of students, Clinical faculty leadership can easily be explained through conscious decision-making by providing them idealized influence on the students. A role modeling approach has been used here, as students will follow the nursing educators that how nursing educators deal with the complex cases of patients. Nursing students will learn from it and will copy the same in their future cases. Modeling thinking processes and decision-making techniques is even more important, as it will teach the students how to manage problems in the real world.

Apart from role modeling, leadership roles can easily be practiced by providing vision. The ability to teach and may motivate employees to set difficult yet achievable goals for themselves are considered the critical characteristic of a good leader. The nurse educator should have the ability to direct their students in the right direction, and may help them to create both short-term and long-term goals as well as a plans for achieving them. The primary goal of a nurse educator is to advance the professional growth of working nurses. As a result, I intend to collaborate closely with nurses to help them establish and achieve meaningful professional, personal, and care-based objectives.

Development Plan

NURS FPX 6103 Assessment 4 Creating a Professional Development Plan

The work I conduct in the field and in the classroom with nurses is central to my overall career strategy. I have a dual goal to teach RN and BSN courses, and to achieve my nurse education certification. The first phase of my plan is almost done, and once I complete my MSN, I will be able to teach nursing in the healthcare facility. Most schools accept instructors with extensive expertise in the area, so continuing my nursing practice will be necessary for me if I look for a job in academia. As a result, if I decided to change careers to academia, I will continue to work in my field of competence to build experience.

Secondly, I intend to pursue advanced pediatric nursing education. I am a qualified pediatric nurse based on my training and prior employment. Furthermore, I will work closely with kids to gain the experience required for a degree in pediatric nursing. As a result, working in academia and the real world will motivate me to grow as a skilled nurse educator. In addition, I will search for nurse practice institutes where on-the-job training is prioritized above theoretical classroom instruction.

Ability to Meet Goals, Achieve Professional Development

The main goal of the clinical supervisor is to protect the clinical welfare and may improve the quality of client care. Clinical supervision helps improve the staff’s understanding of all types of clinical situations and is equally beneficial in preventing the clinical crisis from escalating (Tripathi et al, 2023). These goals can easily be attainable by promoting supervises development growth through teaching. The clinical supervisor should provide constructive and specific feedback on an ongoing basis and may discuss client cases as a teaching tool. From the research of CCSU (2018), it is found that professional development skills can easily be enhanced by using communication skills, problem-solving skills, management skills, and so on. Moreover, professional development is easily achievable by managing obstacles and distractions, setting boundaries, focusing on objectives, and so on.

Maintaining Ethical Practices

NURS FPX 6103 Assessment 4 Creating a Professional Development Plan

Clinical supervision may involve a variety of ethical rules and norms that are helpful in ethical awareness through practice, modeling, teaching, and adherence. Ethical practices for clinical supervision are necessary for respect, integrity, competence, and so on (Psychology, 2020). It is so much of importance because of providing a bridge between the needs of the company and other community members such as clients, employees, customers, and etc. Moreover, the necessary components of ethical behavior may involve the caregiver taking on all the ethical activist roles that may include ethical activity.

Conclusion
